Anxiety

Evidence-based anxiety therapy for chronic worry, perfectionism, panic, or social anxiety

You may be struggling with…

  • Worry or intrusive thoughts that are constant, uncontrollable, and wearing you down.

  • Overwhelming life stressors that leave you frozen in fear and with no idea what to do first.

  • Constantly trying to be the perfect parent, partner, student, employee, friend but never quite getting there, and feeling exhausted and demoralized.

  • Panic attacks or other intense anxiety episodes that you fear will happen at any moment.

  • Physical symptoms such as chronic pain or body tension as a result of your anxiety.

  • Difficulty sleeping or focusing because your anxiety has taken over your life.

  • A fear that others are judging you that makes it impossible to enjoy social situations.

  • A real fear that your anxiety will never go away - which causes more anxiety and worry.

You’ve tried to cope the best you can. Maybe you…

  • Started to avoid more and more places, people, or emotions that you fear, but find that your life has gotten smaller and you are experiencing more isolation and pain, not less.

  • Tried to fix each problem in turn but found the deluge of worry is too much to manage.

  • Constantly seek reassurance from others but even that is taking a toll on your relationships, and your loved ones are getting tired as well.

  • Turned to temporary external fixes like substances, work, or internet distractions, but find that the anxiety is still there, or worse, when those “fixes” go away.

My Approach

I can help you explore those things in your life you fear the most and where in your personal story you learned that you cannot tolerate or handle them.

I help you find your own inner strength to confront these fears directly, rather than continue to avoid or seek to control them. And through this confrontation (in psychology we call it “exposure”), you can slowly but surely stretch what you are able to tolerate, even surprising yourself along the way.

You can free yourself from your struggle with anxiety, returning your life to one that is full of vitality and purpose.

My Experience

I draw on extensive training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help you access new ways of responding to anxiety. We spend time identifying your values and finding your clear “why” to keep you motivated through this difficult work.

I have specialized training in mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT). I utilize these skills to help you to relate differently to your anxious thoughts and feelings so you may be free to make more intentional choices in the face of anxiety.
